Marathon Training: Week 8

Marathon Training: Week 8

This coming week marks one month until our wedding! It's clear to say that I've been focused on anything but marathon training. With last minute details, logistics, and everything of the sorts, my mind has been fully occupied with the wedding. And my training took a hit from it this week when my Sunday long run was anything but long. 

Here's how Week 7 training went:

Planned weekly mileage: 20.1 miles | Total weekly mileage: 14.1 miles

Monday 8/7: 20 minutes of HIIT, 20 minutes of strength training

Tuesday 8/8: Rest

Wednesday 8/9: 5 miles (Total Time: 47:40 | Pace: 9:32/mile)

Thursday 8/10: Rest & Novant Health Charlotte Marathon Ambassador Event: Donut Dash

Friday 8/11: 3.1 miles (Total TIme: 31:08 | Pace: 10:00/mile)

Saturday 8/12: 20 minutes of strength training

Sunday 8/13: 6 miles (Total Time: 1:00:11 | Pace: 10:01/mile), 15 minutes of strength training, 20 minute walk with my dog

What I learned from Week 7: Listen to your body. A huge reason I didn't complete my long run this weekend was because when my alarm went off at 6:00 A.M. on Sunday moring, I was exhausted. Despite going to sleep around 10:00 P.M. the night before, I still felt drained. So I turned my alarm off and didn't get up until almost 9:00 A.M. Which meant that by the time I started running it was already hot, humid, and uncomfortable. Although, I didn't love the fact that I only ran half as far as I wanted to on Sunday, I woke up feeling rested and rejuvinated. Don't forget througout this journey that is marathon training to listen to your body. If you need a day off, take it. If you need to run less or more, do it. You're the only person who knows what you need.
